Supposedly on XCS 6.2 this limit has been raised. Has anybody else seen this problem?
Thanks,
Phil

Re: EVA 8100 Upgrade top XCS 6.2 still only 2TB LUN
Page 5 under the heading Enhancements it says
"Increased virtual device mapping space (to 120 TB on EVA4x00/6x00 and to 300 TB on
EVA8x00) to enable better utilization of large capacity disk drives"
This to me says that I should be able to create a maximum 300TB VDisk on an EVA 8100 if I have upgraded to XCS V6.2.
Am I reading it wrong?

Re: EVA 8100 Upgrade top XCS 6.2 still only 2TB LUN
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/disk_storage/eva_diskarrays/eva_arrays/index.html
Its inline with e.g. the 8100 quickspecs:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12745_div/12745_div.pdf
the max is either 240TB if you use the 1TB FATA drives
or 108TB if you use the 450GB FC disks
RESUME
the numbers are not the VDISK sizes but the max. sizes of the Disk group. The max VDISKs has remained the 2TBs

Re: EVA 8100 Upgrade top XCS 6.2 still only 2TB LUN
Does anybody have any idea WHEN the 2TB limit on VDisk size will be increased now that Windows is not limited to 2TB per disk? That seemed to be why it was limited before.

Re: EVA 8100 Upgrade top XCS 6.2 still only 2TB LUN
I suspect it will be a while yet.
The 2TB limit, is actually a result of limitations in the SCSI protocol itself.
Whilst changing the XCS code is probably relatively easy, the problem will be in upgrading and requalifying the firmware and drivers on all the HBAs out there that might want to attach to the EVA.
That's unlikely to be a small task.
Cheers,
Rob
