hello,
I think you just need 8 drives together. but it is really not good "buy"

Minimum number of disks for all eva's is 8.
Minnimum of disks per device shelf =4.
Minnimum number of device shelfs for eva 8400 is 3 this gives minimum 12 disks for eva8400.

There is no thechnical reason to have 4 disks per device shelf.
There are techinacl reasons tho have at least one good working disk per shelf.
To be somewhat sure you have one good working disk you need 2 :-)
