Re: Replacement of Hard disk in MSA1000
HP has has a program called san surfer, Its free and you can download it from the hp.com website.
All disks are hot swapable, which means they can be pulled out while the array is runing.
If the disk still works, back up all the data on it and bring down any applications using it prior to replacing it.
The controller for the disk is built into the backplane of the disk array.
Once the disk is replaced, sansurfer can help you re-integrate it into the mirror/raid set.

Re: Replacement of Hard disk in MSA1000
locate the user guide and follow the rules and instructions:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?тМй=en&cc=us&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=179166&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=377751тМй=en&cc=us
In fact, if your array is configured to RAID 1 or 5 you can replace the drive online after the spare process is finished. The array will rebuild the drive automatically.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
