how to configure 4-port shared storage module

Hi all.

I have a 2-port shared storage module and now i installed the 4-port.

I just have to connect the cables, don't i have to configure anything? (in the server or storage side)

I found in this document: Smart Array Multipath Users Guide

On Page 13 it says cabling should be as follows:
A1 & B1 -> Server 1
A2 & B2 -> Server 2

But i will not use the Multipath because for the architecture that i am using is not necessary if one server failed and can't see a Logical drive, the oher can.

So, for me the 4-port is an advantage from the 2-port?
I mean there are advantages besides the Multipath?

Sorry, i have a Storage MSA500 G2 with 10 disks of 146 GB and 2 servers DL380 G5.

I already changed the 2-port for the 4-port.
The 2 server recognized the Logical Drives from the Storage.
But when i try to mount twice in the server the same partition i can.
I think i need to change something in the OS (i use Red Hat 4). I don't want to configure the Multipath. I just need to say to the server if an cable broke, he can use the other one.

Is it possible?

Since you have 2 SCSI controllers on the same bus, you need to reconfigure one of them to another SCSI ID (6 instead of 7), otherwise you have a scsi id conflict.

On most smartarray controllers you cannot do this, but on few "plain" scsi controllers you can.

Check the quickspecs for supported controllers.
