Will it help to reduce the backup process with Snap-Shot/Clone ?
If my backup requirement is currently at 36 hours for 5TB with Netbackup, will it help if I add either Snapshot or SnapClone to the equation? Or Both Snaps are mainly to serve the purpose of offload host processing, point-in-time rollback? Another word, will it greatly lessen the 36 hour backup run? My guess is not but I want to hear from the experts.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Will it help to reduce the backup process with Snap-Shot/Clone ?
You are correct that the purpose snap-ing is to offload the host and get point-in-time. The question is where is the bottleneck right now? Is it on the host itself? If so, yes snap-ing and using another host (or the storage system itself) to do the backups will get you better results. If the host is not the problem right now, and if you keep everything else the same, you will not see any difference.

Re: Will it help to reduce the backup process with Snap-Shot/Clone ?
Can't really answer the question without more information.
1. How is the data getting to the backup media? Is it going over your LAN?
2. What storage array do you have? (I Assume an EVA with Business Copy).
3. What is the backup device? and how is it all interconnected?
The short/quick answer is... it sounds like there are a few ways that you might be able to decrease the backup window you need... just how much depends on the current backup configuration.
