Help needed with error message on K220 / HP-UX 11.00
SCSI: Write error -- dev: b 31 0x48000, errno: 5, resid: 8192,blkno: 386376, sectno: 772752, offset: 395649024, bcount: 8192.
Retry count exceeded!
As you can see the address is 0x48000 so i'm not sure how this converts to a CxTxDx device name? Any help gratefully recieved. :)

Re: Help needed with error message on K220 / HP-UX 11.00
if you think that the problem is the tape try it:
ll /dev/rmt |grep 0x48000
for the special file.

Re: Help needed with error message on K220 / HP-UX 11.00
The first two hex digits (48) refer is the major device number. 48 = 72 (dec).
Do as lsdev and look for the matching driver.

Re: Help needed with error message on K220 / HP-UX 11.00
tape 2 10/4/8.0.0 tape2 CLAIMED DEVICE HP 7980S
/dev/diag/rmt/c2t0d0 /dev/rmt/2mb /dev/rmt/2mnb /dev/rmt/c2t0d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c2t0d0BESTnb
/dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/2mn /dev/rmt/c2t0d0BEST /dev/rmt/c2t0d0BESTn
If ??'m not mistaken, the above is the adres for the tape unit.
What kind of software are you using (Legato??)
Check from the command line
# mt -f /dev/rmt/2mnb status
# tapeinfo -f /dev/rmt/2mnb
Try writing something to the tape with tar/cpio
# cd /tmp
# tar cvf /dev/rmt/2mnb .
Hope it helps,
Robert-Jan.

Re: Help needed with error message on K220 / HP-UX 11.00
Finally traced the fault to a disk in one of the HASS Arrays at H/W path 10/8.8.0
Reported it to our H/W vendor and the disk has now been replaced and the errors have stopped.
Once again, thanks. This was my first post on these Forums and I am mighty impressed with all the helpful suggestions.
Hope you all have a hassle free day.
Cheers,
Steve
