Hi Ezhil,

I would say that if you mastered UNIX then you would be very proficient with LINUX and vice versa. The programming idioms, system APIs etc are very similar. A previous post summed it up well when describing the trademark angle.

The GNU guys would argue that "Linux" should actually be called "GNU/Linux" because of the large number of GNU tools used in creating the OS.

Not to nitpick, but Solaris does come in an x86 version and Linux will run on Sparc and you can get a large number of the GNU tools for Solaris x86.

As well, don't forget about the BSDs (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD)which are very similiar to Linux/UNIX.
