Simpler Navigation for Servers and Operating Systems - Please Update Your Bookmarks
Completed: a much simpler Servers and Operating Systems section of the Community. We combined many of the older boards, so you won't have to click through so many levels to get at the information you need. Check the consolidated boards here as many sub-forums are now single boards.
If you have bookmarked forums or discussion boards in Servers and Operating Systems, we suggest you check and update them as needed.

Oracle 8i OPS on HP

Oracle 8i OPS on HP

Does anyone have experience with Oracle 8i OPS on a MC/ServiceGuard cluster?
What I'd like to known is
-what system architecture you used (specially for storage),
-if OPS provides real benefits for high availability (compared to a standart Oracle 8i with failover cluster)
-if OPS really helps reduce database downtime for planned hardware downtime.
-any trick?

Thanks for your help,

Re: Oracle 8i OPS on HP

To answer your questions :
-> Architecture
2 A500 servers, one SC10 rack, one router, two switches, extra networkcombocard in each server so three networkpaths are possible. We have > 250 of these environments (retail).
-> Benefits and database uptime
OPS / MC (in our setup) does not improve the database uptime. It protects the environment from server problems. Remember that both (or as many as you have in the cluster) servers still use the same database. This setup enables us to do hardware-maintenance on one of the servers while the other one keeps running the show.

Hope this is a good start for this thread,

A life ? Cool ! Where can I download one of those from ?
