Oracle9iAS Release 2(9.0.2) for HP-UX 11i

Dear All
I'm installing Oracle9iAS Release 2(9.0.2) for HP-UX 11i. So as I understand it is necessary to use DNS for host name resolution. But could I use /etc/hosts host name resolution for it? Installation reques

string in the /etc/hosts files. But as I undestand
must be the DNS-name string.
Thanks
Kerry

Re: Oracle9iAS Release 2(9.0.2) for HP-UX 11i

you are right!
To my understanding if your machine is confiured for DNS or is using DNS then the fully qualified name will include the domain name with the hostname.
If your machine is a standalone one then the option of using the /etc/hosts is perfect with just the hostname excluding the domainname(as it is not configured ) in the fullyqualifiedname field.

Thanks
