Qpopper errors: I/O error flushing output to client; Operation not permitted

Can anyone tell me what many of our handhelds that connect to a Red Hat 7.3 Linux server running QPopper V 4.0.5 to retreive mail are not able to retreive it now?
Here is the error from one unit connecting via a Win 2000 RAS server:
==========
Aug 20 08:01:32.322 2003 [30273] I/O error flushing output to client hhcol013 at
10.3.0.86 [10.3.0.86]: Operation not permitted (1) [pop_send.c:689]
=========
The other units that connect directly from the LAN do not have this problem.

I must say that you didn't provide enough info.
1.the unints that can't connect are not in the LAN?
2.Is the problem only with handhelds?
3.can any unit successfully retrieve mail via RAS?

Any way I would suggest you to check:
1. firewall settings -perhaps there is a rule that's blocking connection from RAS.
2. TCP wrapper definitions (hosts.allow,hosts.deny)-perhaps there's a blocking rule.
