Recover from DLT tape that was made using fbackup V10.2

I need to recover data from a spanned backup on 2 DLT tapes made using fbackup V10.2

The server used is no longer operational

Can frecover V11.3 be used? Any other HP/other utility?

   I've never owned hardware old enough to run HP-UX 10.20, so I know
nothing, but...

   I'd certainly run the experiment with a modern "frecover" before
looking for anything else.

Yes, the new version of frecover will read all previous fbackup tapes. However, the reverse is no longer true. The version contained in HP-UX 11.31 creates tapes that are incompatible with all previous versions of HP-UX. And due to a big oversight, no option exists for the new version to create backward compatible tapes.
