Running but missing file
We lately discovered that one of our key scripts is missing in filesystem. The funny thing is the script keeps running in the background for a couple of months. My question is; Is there a way to recover content of this running file from memory?
Thanks to all...

Re: Running but missing file
No, you can not recover it from memory.
if its still on the file system table you may be able to find it on disk.
I would suggest pulling a tape from backup to get a copy though.

Re: Running but missing file
This is the only way I can think of that you can retrieve your script without resorting to backup tapes.

Re: Running but missing file
Do you see this in ps(1)? If it starts in cron, then there maybe errors saying that the script is missing?
If it has been continually running, the file is still there on disk. While lsof could find the process, I'm not sure what you could to once you found this info?

Re: Running but missing file
No it's not started from cron. We started it in command line, it keeps running in the background from memory, but it no longer exists on the disk...Anyway thank you all, I brought the tape to site and restored the file... But I still have no idea why the file is gone, checked the history but couldn't find any command that could result in deleting this file...The filesytem this file resides on crashed to %100 sometime ago, maybe something has happened then...Weird...
Thanks again...
