I'd like to activate trusted systems on an SAP/Informix env. We're running on HP-UX 11.i, Informix ver. 7.31.fd2x7, r3 46c, afs 1.6, w/o service guard. Is this do-able? The central instance is on a different server than the database.

Re: SAP R3 /Informix on Trusted Systems?
I have yet to see trusted systems break anythign as important as a database. I think you will be fine.
Trusted system spreads the password file around making it harder to attack the system and getting that file for running crack on it.

Solution
I'd check this out with IBM informix first 7.31 is an old code stream, way before HP-UX 11.00 even. Whilst I doubt a trusted system would break anything, there maybe caveats and extra constraints. e.g. your DB synonym links may need to be dropped and recreaded between remote databases or something of this nature..
