archive log deleted

Hello Gurus,

Database is in archivelog mode , i have errors in alert.log :
ORA-27072: File I/O error
HPUX-ia64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 4
Additional information: 5121
Additional information: 405504
ORA-19502: write error on file "/pcard15/oradata/pcard/arch/1_135_681813764.dbf", blockno 5121 (blocksize=1024)

Tue May 19 15:00:07 2009.....archive log files have been deleted from the location.Databse is running , should i shutdown the DB with shutdown immediate or shutdown normal command ?On startup will the DB require recovery .I am not a DBA , please help .will restarting the DB , make DB normal and in archive log mode .

Shalom,

No need to shut the database down, though this will do the trick.

1) Make sure there is sufficient space for the file, you may have run out of archive log space.

2) Any database checkpoint is sufficient to set up a restore point, along with a hot backup.

That being said, I'd go for a shutdown, full backup and database start. Cold backups are much easier to work with.

db dont need any recovery for archive logs...also for archive files deletion dont need any DB reboot..if for other cause you want to shut DB's then use shut immediate

archive logs are copy of the redo log files..if redo log deleted then we need recovery

archivelog is not must for database we can run the database in no archive mode also
archive files are not the part of the DB

startup will require recovery if we shutdown?
no recovery is needed.

recovery require only if datafiles,redo log files and control files deleted from databases

for archive no need..its just like backup redo log files thats All,

Thanks for the help. This weekend i will shutdown the DB take a cold backup and then start it again. everything goes fine, i will update the this thread and close it.Once again thanks a lot.

shutdwon and then startup happened normally, and no restore/recovery was required.
