convert to trusted system

Hi all

I have 1 machine HPUX 10.2 on non trusted system. Then I run this command to convert to trusted system (/usr/lbin/tsconvert -dv). It seems successful until reach one user-id and I got this error msg

tsconvert: dopswd: putprpwnam(peter) failed
Can't write protected database;
password file unchanged.
Entering rmpdirs, directory = /tcb.
Leaving rmpdirs.

I try looking the error and can;t find solution.

Pls help.

Re: convert to trusted system

Only thing I can think of here, is that your original /etc/passwd file was corrupted in some way. If this is some sort of test system, I would roll the conversion back, run 'pwck' before attempting it again. I also have not seen the options you have used (-dv) (/usr/lbin/tsconvert -r)
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: convert to trusted system

Standard procedure is to use sam for the conversion.

It does more than the tsconvert command I think.

sam security

You'll see a menu item for the conversion. If it still fails there is something else wrong.

Re: convert to trusted system

Hi,

In addition, check also that your root file system is not full.
Maybe using SAM to do that you can get a more detailed error.

Re: convert to trusted system

Hi,

It's possible that you've hashed out an entry in /etc/passwd which will upset the tsconvert command. The hash character (#) is not valid for commenting out lines in /etc/passwd.

Darren.
Calm down. It's only ones and zeros...
