i/o error linux DL380G5

Hello all,

Linux is not my strongest area. I'm trying to help someone determine the exact cause of this I/O error. DL380G5 P400 controller with updated firmware running a 6 disk raid set with one hot spare. "I/O error, dev cciss/c0d0, sector 27579810" repeats over and over and over. Drive 3 was replaced because it had a previous hardware error, though it never failed. Error still persists, system has been rebooted. I have run ADU, but didn't see anything standing. Is there a way to determine where that sector is? Next step is to update firmware on all the drives and system bios firmware. Then if it is still persistent we will replace the controller. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Check if your P400 needs a firmware update.

My advice, proceed with your drive firmware upgrades as well as system firmware/bios if you're behind.

Now if the Issue persists - you can have 2 choices once more:

1) Mondorescue Backup your system's OS then revuild your Array and restore

or

2) Replace the Controller -- unsure though if the raid volume will be maintained when a controller is replaced... others can perhaps chime in.

Yes raid will be maintained. Smartarray controllers are pretty smart. config lies on the drives. Not sure about the backup and restore. That would probably be a last, last resort.

Yes, Raid is on the disk drives
