ignite and sd-ux on hpux 11i

Hi There,

What is ignite and for what purpose is it used ?
What is SD-UX and why is it used ?

Ignite is used for cold starting a baremetal system or a system which crashed without any other method of recovery. It is a tool to install OS on new servers

SD-UX where SD stands for Software Distributor is a mechanism to manage distribution of layered application software from a central repository to be used on enterprise-wide servers

Ignite is used to install a new version of HP-UX or recover a crashed system.

SD-UX is the "software distributor" which allows you to install software or patches onto your existing HP-UX system - you can install the depot files with SD-UX.

Hi,

The Ignite is a wonderful tool available in HPUx. It copies the image of a running system and can be used for recovery with minimal time in case of root disk failures. You can even opt to take ignite backup on tape or you can configure a ignite server to backup all your HPUx servers in the network.

SD-Ux is the software distributor for HPUx as stated above. which can be used for managing additional softwares,products and patches etc.

Morover, this is available for all the current versions of HPUx not only 11i. It start coming with HPUx 10.20 atleast.
