rds hugging CPU

Hi,

rds process of Dataprotector is currently using almost 60%wcpu. Is this normal? Would you know of any patch for this, in case this is a known error? Please advise. Thanks.

Re: rds hugging CPU

There are patches which can solve the problem.
Meanwhile what version of DataProtector you are running?

My apologies for not stating the DP version. We're running DP5.1. Thanks.

Juat check this doc

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000072157109

Can you also check the usage of that process using GLANCE

Re: rds hugging CPU

Hi,

Its might be because of "hungry memory resource" try increasing MAXDSIZE kernel parameter, that should solve the problem

Re: rds hugging CPU

Ira,

I suggest you read this info !
I don't know how you monitor the rds process, but this might be the issue.

Re: rds hugging CPU

Hi,

It is not normal if rds is running at 60% all the time. But, when backing up data rds can reach a high value temporary (when writing data to the DP database). Also when purging, browsing backup objects or searching rds is very active.

Re: rds hugging CPU

Ira,

This is due to a bug in the HPUX command. There you see indeed that the RDS daemon is consuming the CPU.

However if you would check the cpu usage with a (trial version) of GlancePlus, you'll see that the rds daemon has a normal, low CPU usage. Or check it with sar, you'll see that your CPU isn't used that much as the 'top' command is telling you.

best regards,
Kurt
