Hi All,

I need to add another CPU in D 370 i have another machine that i can take the CPU from is there a Documentation is to how do i take the CPU from one machine and add it to another D370 Machine .

It's not that different than a PC but special tools may be required.

There may be steps needed on the hardware level such as dip switch to make this work.

The CPU's must be the same speed. I don't think thats a problem, don't recall the D class having different CPU speeds, but you should read the docs above to be certain.

The CPU was never a single part for this server - there were 2 different CPU boards (a board with 1 CPU and a board with 2 CPUs).

I don't remember the hardware exactly, but I think you cannot install a second CPU on a single CPU board. AFAIR the cooling unit for 2 CPUs was only 1 part covering both CPUs.

How can i find out if the server i have that have aspace for another CPU ...Is there a way to find that information with out taking down the system.

I agree with Torsten. This server didn't have an "upgrade" slot, it had two options a motherboard with 2 cpus and one with a single cpu. They just weren't available stock out there from "standard" sources with only a single chip installed on 2 proc motherboard.

However, if you want to find out, open the case and look. :-)

The Dx70-2 way board your looking for is A3262-69349 / A3262-60049 - you need to get one of those and swap it with your A3262-69347 / A3262-60047 Dx70-1 way board. You can transfer your memory from the board you have to the 2-way CPU board.

You can not add a CPU to your 1-way board.
