nslookup concern

Hello,

 

if i do the nslookup command , it will search the DNS then NIS then LDAP.  so we have to put the entry in the /etc/nssswitch.conf file right ?. Please let me know on that.

nslookup doesn't provide a clear explanation of the search steps. Use nsquery instead:

 

nsquery hosts 1.2.3.4

or

nsquery hosts abc.domain.com

 

The rules in nsswitch.conf will be displayed as nsquery follows the list.
