Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

Of course! There's eisa_config utility which handles all eisa devices, and real layout should match configuration. You need to setup systems exactly the same as they were setup when were working before

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

ISL> hpux -lm -is

If this works then your bootlif is corrupt and will have to be remade. Try this first:

lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00

This will clear out the bootlif, aka, BDRA. Then:

lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00/lvol3
lvlnboot -b /dev/vg00/lvol1
lvlnboot -s /dev/vg00/lvol2
lvlnboot -d /dev/vg00/lvol2
lvlnboot -R (* update *)
lvlnboot -v (* list or report *)

sync, sync, sync, reboot.

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

OK I put the cards in exactly like the other one. No Joy.

Is there a hiarchy to the order the cards need to be in the system, do I have to do an eisa_config on them, if so how?

I also tried again to boot off the OS disk and got the same FLT B800 error.

Such a fun day.

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

Reinstall the O/S. Trouble shooting this is not worth the time or effort especially since these don't contain data and you're using another boot disk from another server.

Question: Are the disk product ids the same between the old and new boot disks?

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

One of the problems is I can't even boot off the OS disk to install from scratch.

I tried the hpux -lm -is and it is still sitting there doing nothing. Just how long is this supposed to take??

Believe me I really don't want to keep banging my head on a wall. I've got 4 other D350 drives that I need to test out, I'm going to unpack one of thoses and go from there.

One last question. Do I need to do an eisa_config or anything like that to get the machine to recognize the cards and what order they are in?? If so how/when do I configure them.

Tks again

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

If you can't do hpux -lm -is then the binary file /stand/rootconf is corrupt.

Since you can't do hpux -is then your bootlif is corrupt.

And FLT B800 is a kernal or O/S panic error.

Can you use a make_tape_recovey tape from another D class server?

Or send them back????

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

As soon as you can not boot from installation CD there could be a) wrong/bad/out-of-dated CD problem and b) hardware problem

Re: FLT800 on a D350 server

Cathy,

Your D350 is not happy with the kernel; I would recommend trying to install from a 10.20 CD, preferably not the original 1996 CD but later HWE 2.0 or 3.0.
