Hello!
I have some questions on the back tapes but current as they are the Ultrium (215)
and the Super DLT (vs80):
Is it possible to use them in a server L2000, does this already have a tape DDS 3, would there be some problem?
That so convenient it is to have an ultrium in a server rp5430?
Can anyone of two be connected from a simple way to the server or does one have to acquire the connection interfaz?

Solution
Rafael:
The L2000 has one internal bay for removable media. DAT and DVD are the only two devices supported there, in the L2000 chassis itself.
Most people put the DVD there, and then buy an external chassis (TA5300) to hold a DAT and/or LTO/DLT. I don't know if SuperDLT is supported in that chassis, but DLT8000 (and MAYBE DLT vs80) are.
The L2000 has a built-in external UltraSCSI LVD/SE bus to run this chassis. IF you go with a DAT40 (DDS4) drive in the TA5300, it runs LVD SCSI. This means that an LVD LTO or DLT drive could just daisy-chain on the same SCSI bus. If you have an older DDS3 DAT (DAT24?), it only runs the bus in the slow SE SCSI mode, so you would then need an UltraSCSI PCI card to run the LTO or DLT drive. The four drive bays in the TA5300 can all be seperately cabled.
The PCI HBA would be either A5150A (dual port Ultra) or A6828A (single port Ultra160). The older single port A5149A is OK, but you can't get them anymore (even though they still show on the pricelist), and the Ultra160 card is the same price, so, it's fine.
For cables, at the host end, it is all "very high density" (VHD68) SCSI connectors. At the TA5300, it uses "high density" (HD68) connectors. Use C2362B (2.5m VHD/HD M/M) for each one, or use one C2362B and a C2978B (.5m HD/HD M/M daisy-chain) if you are running DAT and LTO/DLT on one LVD SCSI bus.
Hope that is what you are looking for.
Regards, --bmr

Re: Tape Backup Questions!!
Rafael,
Only the DDS-3 tape drive is supported as an internal peripheral to the L-class (rp54xx) servers. The internal bay has 50 pin Single ended SCSI connector for DDS-3. The Ultrium drives do not physically fit as they are too long. The Tape Array 5300 is the recommended solution. I should point out that DLTVS80 is NOT SDLT (SuperDLT). DLTVS80 is the budget DLT drive from Benchmark Systems and is a new DLT format. It is READ compatible only with DLT4000. It cannot use tapes which have been previously written to be DLT drives.
The SuperDLT is not yet supported on HP-UX.
