Re: Upgrading HP9000 N4000 and L2000 Servers

Hello Sunikumar,

About Disks;

N4000
2 internal HDD not Hot swap (in the rear of the box).

L2000

4 internal Hot Swap HDD (in the front).

They cannot be upgraded to Itanium.

Re: Upgrading HP9000 N4000 and L2000 Servers

I think the memory configuration is a little low.

I'd seriously consider going to 2 GB or 4 GB.

1 GB of Ram runs the operating system and a web server. Any significant load will have you in active paging in and out of swap.

This of course depends on current use.

L2000 supports up to 16GB of RAM. Also known as the rp5450. I think HP no longer sells them. Comparable machine is the rp5470, L3000.

Re: Upgrading HP9000 N4000 and L2000 Servers

SK,
For what its worth, we just completed an upgrade and replaced our L2000 with 3-450 Mhz CPUs, 4GB RAM with an rp4440, with 6-1 GHz PA-8800 CPUs. We migrated several DS2100 arrays, and installed 8GB of RAM.

Performance is much improved, the rp4440 is a very nice entry-level server for small enterprises. The rp4440 is a new server HP recently introduced. As SEP noted, the rp5470 is the "natural" replacement for the L2000, but the rp4440 fit our needs a bit better.

Re: Upgrading HP9000 N4000 and L2000 Servers

Hi,

1) N4000 (rp7400) with base board A3639A max configuration:
8x440MHz CPU (one processor support module for every two CPUs is required)
32GB RAM (16x2GB modules (2DIMMs per module) (one memory carrier board for every 4 memory modules is required)
Product numbers:
A5500A 440MHz CPU
A5158A Processor Support Module
A5864A 2GB Memory Module (2x1GB DIMM)
A4882A Memory carrier board

Internal HDDs:
2x73GB HDD (A9762A)
I believe that 146GB LVD HDDs (80pin SCA) will work also.

N4000 cannot be converted to Itanium.

2) L2000 (rp5450) max configuration:
4x440MHz CPUs for A5191A base board
or
4x550MHz CPUs for A5191B base board
(550MHz CPU run at 540MHz in L2000)
one processor support module for every two CPUs is required
16GB RAM (8x2GB modules (2DIMMs per module) (L2000 has 16 slots for memory DIMMs on base board)
Product numbers:
A5522A 440MHz CPU
A6146A 550MHz CPU
A5796A Processor Support Module
A6115A 2GB Memory Module (2x1GB DIMM)

Internal HDDs:
4x146GB HDD (A7080A)

L2000 can be converted to Itanium model HP Integrity rx5670.
The following products are required for upgrade:
A6842B opt 002 Upgrade rp5450 to rx5670, 1.3Hz CPU
or
A7028B opt 002 Upgrade rp5450 to rx5670, 1.5GHz CPU

A9809A Itanium 2 1.3GHz CPU for HP rx5670
A9810A Itanium2 1.5GHz CPU for HP rx5670

A6747A Mem. carrier board with 24 slots for HP rx5670 (max 2)
A6834A 4GB DDR memory quad for HP rx5670
A6835A 8GB DDR memory quad for HP rx5670

My suggestion is to buy entire new system, like HP Integrity rx4640.

Regards,
Zygmunt
