Re: system physical env

Hi,
Even if it is possible you should never change the temp. limits.
It protects the server from being burnt because of over temp.

Check the Air condition requirements in site prep guide, and provide
accordingly. Also make surethere are sufficient space in the front/back side,
new servers are all designed to take air flow from front to back.

You can configure the DB startup shutdown as the system goes down/up,
you should add your script in /sbin/init.d and make links to /sbin/rc2.d & rc1.d

If you want more help on the configuration, reply.

Re: system physical env

Syafid,

There is a daemon process supplied on HP systems called 'envd'. This is an environmental monitoring daemon. It monitors system temperature and fan status. This daemon reads a config file caleed /etc/envd.config to determine what actions to take in the event of an emergency. You could put entry for your database shutdown script in the envd.config file. The next time the the system overtemps, it will run your script to stop the db before the system powers off. See the 'envd' man page for more info.

Re: system physical env

The overtemperature condition is damaguing your computer and all the equipment in the same room like disks and tape drives. If you continue to run under these conditions, the equipment will be permanently damaged. If this equipment is valuable, I would place fixing the air conditioning as your top priority.

Re: system physical env

Hi,

I recommend to improve the AirConditioning of the server room. For proper shutdown u can edit the /etc/envd.conf & restart the envd daemon. The config file is self explanatery. But dont diasble the feature.
