Okay, but what did the DB admins/users say? Didn't they notice a decrease in performance?

They were not brought in to the loop. We monitored the OS (sar utility) if there was massive queuing as a result and we used that primarily as a guage whether we are at the sweet spot... Of course we also had application/db monitors to warn us.

Okay, thanks...I will keep this in mind as a last resort.

I am fairly sure I've seen a customer advisory (can't find it right now, sorry) that mentions new FC adapter drivers that allow 'de-tuning' the I/O size - specially for Windows 2008 which can do *large* I/Os. Unfortunately the EVA does not like large I/Os either...

When talking about I/O size - do you mean block size? Doesn't this need to be set at the application level?

Someone in this thread mentioned an article where this was described for Oracle DBs.

I was talking about the (SCSI) I/O that goes from the FC adapter to the EVA.

Perfect. That's it - somehow I missed to make a local copy.

Thanks for the article.

In general I guess I need more experience with storage...

Is anyone aware of an article that describes storage communication from the "top" (application) to the "bottom" (disk array) and the factory that impact performance?

I'm actually starting to get a little confused.

Of course I meant the factors that impact performance, not the factory...
