SAN switch portshow

While taking backup of one of the servers we observe that Backup is very slow (6GB – 3 Hours or more) if the server is connected to a particular port of SAN Switch port 14.
if we change the port of the same server to another port and run the backup again, then backup goes very fast (6GB-8m.
also from port show I can see a lot of CRC Errors while backup is running.

Re: SAN switch portshow

It could be a bad SFP. Does the error move with the connection if you plug the SFP into a different port?

Re: SAN switch portshow

Hi,
it seems to be the faulty SFP on the switch port or the switch mainboard port itself. You are probably using the wwn-based zoning or no zoning at all. It is good to run the porterrshow to see if the CRC errors are continuously increasing or stable and if they are growing you can run the supportshow/supportsave command and send them to the vendors FTP.
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: SAN switch portshow

I changed the SFP with the same issue, also i changed the SAN ZONING for the port but didnt solve the problem!

Re: SAN switch portshow

then the problem can be the fc cable

Re: SAN switch portshow

OK, the same cable used in another port without any problem, with the same HBA and same server.
Only if i connect to this port this problem happen, even i created new zone for this port without any change!

Re: SAN switch portshow

Hi,
then the problem can be the switch mainboard port itself, run the errdump pls

Re: SAN switch portshow

an/or the porterrshow can be shortly collected and compared the CRC errors if they are growing

Re: SAN switch portshow

What version of firmware is the switch? as it might need to be upgraded if the sfp in use is newer then your firmware.

Point to errors on the other side of the cable (the HBA).
