OV for vCenter & vCOPS plugins works standalone?

Hi

Does OV for vCenter plugin works standalone without OV appliance installed? Or it must have OV appliance installed to pull the information from?

I have configured OneView plugin for vROPs many times.  I have always connected it to OneView appliance.
