Application aware backups

Hi,

I have a 4 node hyper-v cluster connected to a P4500 multi-site san. It is running about 30 VM's on a single cluster shared volume. I am currently using about 65% of the disk space. My issue is that if I carry out a hardware application aware backup (MS DPM 2012)  I won't have enough disk space to carry out the snapshot. Has any one come across this problem and are there any best practices to follow.
