P4000 - ALB - Switch IRF
We have 4 nodes p4500 g2 connected to 4 switch A5120-EL, this switch was installed about 1 year ago, initially no problem, today after a recent upgrade the san iq to 11.5 we note some errors on the switch:
Nov 5 15:28:00:618 2014 ARP Notification ARP_DUPLICATE_IPADDR_DETECT -Slot=3; Detected an IP address conflict. The device with MAC address 78e3-b511-b879 connected to GigabitEthernet4/0/6 in VLAN 1 and the device with MAC address 78e3-b511-b878 connected to GigabitEthernet3/0/6 in VLAN 1 are using the same IP address 10.100.0.155. Thanks.

Re: P4000 - ALB - Switch IRF
The Network Bond on 4 nodes is configured with ALB.
Thanks.

Re: P4000 - ALB - Switch IRF
On the same 4 switch is connected another cluster Lefthand with 2 node p4530 with 4 port Gbe configured with ALB, 8 ports in total, 2 ports for switch (4), and the error ARP_DUPLICATE_IPADDR_DETECT not appear for these ports.
The san iq os on the p4530 is 11.5, the same build of the other 4 node p4500g2.
Thanks.
Regards.

Re: P4000 - ALB - Switch IRF
Valeria, if you are setting up the switches in IRF, then you better set up the StoreVirtual nodes with LACP bonding instead of ALB bonding.

Re: P4000 - ALB - Switch IRF
HI,
It seems that I've met the same situation on A5500. My user (probably) use Windows RLB,
Solaris IP-Multipath and Linux bonding balance-alb. I took a look linux bonding driver code
and found balance-alb may send out ARPOP_REPLY with different MAC addr between hosts.
see:
http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/drivers/net/bonding/bond_alb.c#L1363
ETH_P_ARP case and
http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/drivers/net/bonding/bond_alb.c#L678
ARPOP_REPLY case
so I think it cannot be helped to log ARP_DUPLICATE_IPADDR_DETECT with ALB, but...
It's my turn. I have a few another trouble with A5500. HP care support center who I contact
with said they can not investigate, analyze those trouble because of too much ARP_DUP.. log.
I think as HPStrageTom said, LACP is better solution but we have many ALB servers that
is hard to stop network. My question is:
Is there any way to stop ARP_DUP.. log in RLB/ALB/IP-Multipath server existing network
without changing loglevel?
Thanks.
