V3000 Anoalog Line Card not discoverable

Hi all,

One of my line cards all of a sudden stopped working. I tried a number of solutions and suggestions, from resetting device, power down unit, delete line card ports, adding in manually, nothing seems to work,

I have added other line cards, they auto discovered no problem.

This one I'm having troubles with, has all 4 lights lit continuously on the chasis, unlike the others that flash.

Maybe that's an indication of something.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

is this one of the older ALC's??? Are you running the NBX in SIP mode?

If NBX in SIP mode and it is an older ALC, the older ALC is not supported.

Check the /htfs0/NBossLog.txt.. any errors related to the download

If you have nto changed any of the IP settings then the card should boot up in layer 2 then register with the NBX . A network trace should tell you , or if you have a spare card , then just use your spare and test out if the card boots and is seen by the NBX

Licenses ?

Device license on the NBX for each port

No other license required so check and make sure you have enough devices and you are licensed for them .

Still having troubles discovering a couple line cards, licenses OK, but I will do some more digging.....

If they are new cards then it should discover ok . However , RMA'ed cards could have an issue when booting up .

Run a hyperterm and check the ip info on the cards ..

Ahhhhh...finally got them working !!

I was spending some time on this today, and after adding a couple of the spare cards I have, all of them did not discover.

I knew the licenses were OK, but these cards were from another 3com system we had from a different location, so I knew they worked, and I have moved these between systems before without troubles.

What finally worked was if I added the line card manually, after I hit "apply", then it would give me an error saying the mac id is already in use (assuming that's stored somewhere from the other system).

Once I cleared that error, that line card entry was listed so I deleted it.

After that, the card auto discovered finally !!

All is fine now, appreciate all your suggestions (as you can tell, I dont know too much about adding hardware).

Nice job as these can be tricky . what you have is the mac was in the NBX . Seen this b4 .

Mostly the cards will trty and boot to a mac already on the boar d.
