Kernel will not build

Doing a restore
Question Hi All,
I am running 10.2, and I have a question about restore. I had a server go down that had no usable backup. I have another server running almost the same applications, however it has a different hardware set up. the box that went down is a 745i and the one I am trying to do a restore from is a 180L. Is this something that can work? I am using ignite to do the backup and restore. If I go into "[ ] Advanced Installation (recommend for disk and file management)" should I not be able to make this work, or is it hopeless because they are two different hardware machines. The down machine is in Thailand so it takes me a while to get things accomplished as I am in the US.

Any suggestions as to weather I should be able to pull this restore off would be greatly appreciated. I do know overseas tried it but had trouble with the kernel, and when it tried to rebuild a new one it errored. See below, a print out of my correspondence.

Thanks,

Phil

After pressed Install HP-UX, then next menu show up as list:

" User interface and media option "
" ....Help information is here ...... "

"Source Location option "
"[*] Media only installation "
"[ ] Media with network enable (allow use of SD depot)"
"[ ] Ignite-UX server base installation "

"User interface option "
"[*] Guided Installation (recommend for basicinstall) "
"[ ] Advanced Installation (recommend for disk and file management)"
"[ ] No user interface use all default "

With 3 times trial, we selected "Media only installation" from
"Source Location option" but varied on "User Interface option".

First trial, we selected "Guided Installation" and followed
instruction to config the system step by step.

Second trial, we selected "Advanced Installation" and
config hardware on each menu tabs.

Third trial, we also selected "Advanced Installation" and
changed the scsi id of hard disk from 5 to 6.

All of 3 trials, we faced the same errors and following are
details as listed :

Re: Kernel will not build

Shalom,

Suggestion:

Do a make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery (to NFS) and try to restore to the second server.

Hardware differences may make this impossible to pull off.

I think however based on your error message that you have a hardware problem on the second server that must be resolved before installation.

Seems the hardware is long out of support so contact HP and see if they'll fix it time an materials.

Also, long term, plan a migration to supported hardware and software.
