Legacy device file errors for SAN attached tape drives
When we execute make_net_recovery, one of our HP-UX 11.31 hosts always generates the following error.
* Scanning system for IO devices...
ERROR: Unable to open device special file /dev/rmt/c11t0d1BEST: Device busy (errno = 16)
Another HP-UX 11.31 host generates this error when make_net_recovery is executed.
* Scanning system for IO devices...
ERROR: Unable to open device special file /dev/rmt/c12t0d1BEST: No such device or address (errno = 6)
ERROR: Unable to open device special file /dev/rmt/c9t0d0BEST: No such device or address (errno = 6)
ERROR: Unable to open device special file /dev/rmt/c12t0d0BEST: Device busy (errno = 16)
The make_net_recovery completes successfully on both hosts but we're concerned by these legacy device file errors from our SAN attached tape drives. The ioscan output for these devices doesn't show anything unusual.
Any thoughts on why these errors are occurring and how to clear them?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Legacy device file errors for SAN attached tape drives
Whats' the output of
lssf /dev/rmt/c11t0d1BEST
and
lssf /dev/rmt/c12t0d1BEST
lssf /dev/rmt/c9t0d0BEST
lssf /dev/rmt/c12t0d0BEST
If it shows a HW path of ??? you can just rmsf the device files...

The devices look fine.
# lssf /dev/rmt/c11t0d1BEST

Re: Legacy device file errors for SAN attached tape drives
This is expected if norewind on close is disabled:
# scsimgr get_attr -d estape -a norewind_close_disabled
DRIVER estape GLOBAL ATTRIBUTES:
name = norewind_close_disabled
current = 1
default = 0
saved = 1
check out of IUX:
# mt -f /dev/rmt/c18t11d0BEST status
on tape open: No such device or address
# mt -f /dev/rmt/c18t11d0BESTnb status
Drive: HP Ultrium 3-SCSI
Format:
Status: Tape media is not present
File: 0
Block: 0
