vPar Ignite on new disk (vparboot -I & vPar Ingite ITRC cookbook-- Gone!!!)
I had it bookmarked at
http://europe-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=3694372e111174ed45/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000058095231
but now it's bouncing me out-a-there. Must have been removed. Anyone know where I can find a replacement, equivalent, etc.
I'm trying to boot a newly created vPartition
directy to an ignite image. The man page for vparboot shows that:
vparboot -p vp3 -I x.x.x.x,/opt/ignite/boot/WINSTALL
(where x.x.x.x is our ip address of the server with the WINSTALL/Ignite on it)
should work, and I think the reason it isn't is because my Ignite server is an old D-class server and I'm trying to boot an N4000-44 from it. I'm guessing that if I setup ignite on an N (or even L) class server then this command might work.
# vparboot -p vp3 -I x.x.x.y,/opt/ignite/boot/WINSTALL
vparboot: Booting vp3. Please wait...
(where x.x.x.y is ip address of my D-class ignite server)
or I copied the WINSTALL file to an L300 (same architecture as an N) I get:
# vparboot -p vp3 -I x.x.x.x,/var/WINSTALL
vparboot: Booting vp3. Please wait...
#
but on the VPMON console I get:
MON> Kernel file is not relocatable for vp3
File address is 0x0000000000020000 and memory address is 0x0000000004000000
Failed to load ram()INSTALL
Any suggestions please?

What does your vPar database look like?
Also, have a look at:

Re: vPar Ignite on new disk (vparboot -I & vPar Ingite ITRC cookbook-- Gone!!!)
From the manual,
If you are using Ignite/UX for installing or recovering virtual partitions,
in addition to adding the vPars bundles to your Ignite server, you need to
replace the existing /opt/ignite/boot/WINSTALL file with the vPars
WINSTALL file using the WINSTALL_script. (The WINSTALL file is a
bootable kernel file).
Also, you must be running Ignite/UX version B.3.4.115 or higher.
??? From the vPars web site:
Go to http://www.software.hp.com
Select Enhancement Releases
Select HP-UX Virtual Partitions
Follow the instructions on the web page for obtaining the files
WINSTALL and WINSTALL_script.

Re: vPar Ignite on new disk (vparboot -I & vPar Ingite ITRC cookbook-- Gone!!!)
"For important information about obtaining the correct Ignite-UX install kernel, see the 02/13/02 Important Update re: HP-UX Virtual Partitions" links to http://software.hp.com/HPUX-RDMP/
"Follow the instructions on the web page for obtaining the files
WINSTALL and WINSTALL_script." Is this in the Ignite download? I've already got B.3.5.89.
I've searched all over itrc for "WINSTALL.shar.gz" but got nothing back.
----------------------------------------------
By the way, do you guys have account/access to boththe us itrc site and others? I've got my account on the uk one, and whenever I try to follow a link which is on the US one (like Harry's above at
http://us-support.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/screen=ckiSearchResults
I get "Your User ID and Password are not found at this IT Resource Center site. Please check and re-enter your User ID and Password. Also, be sure you are using the site where you registered: European support customers should have registered at the European site, and Americas/Asia-Pacific support customers should have registered at the Americas/Asia-Pacific site.
If you do not have a User ID and Password for the IT Resource Center, please register.
(Error 131)"
Reading this I don't think I need to create another account on the US site (if I do it'll ask me my country and redirect me to the UK anyway) but I'm missing out on some info with this error.

Re: vPar Ignite on new disk (vparboot -I & vPar Ingite ITRC cookbook-- Gone!!!)
The winstall and the winstall_script files are both on the vPars software CD in the root of the directory so you should have no problem getting them.
Hope this helps, Paul
