rx8640

Hi,

We have a customer that has this machine and loaded windows 2008 on it. I am not familiar with this. They are asking how they can join the 3 other cell boards to the partition. can someone point me in the correct direction to get these commands?

Thank you
Jon

Re: rx8640

Hi Jon,

Check the following link -
* Partitioning (Multiple Operating Systems, One Multi-processor Server)
http://docstore.mik.ua/manuals/hp-ux/en/5992-4580/ch02s07.html

This talks about hardware partitioning at the cell board level using nPartitions.

Hope this helps.

Re: rx8640

Jon,

basically these are the steps at a high level:

- bring down the current single cell partition running windows 2008

- run the partition s/w utilitie already referred to in previous posts to reconfigure the complex and add the cell(s) required.

- don't forget the CLM setting, should be 100% for Windows for optimal performance
(i.e. SQL is NUMA aware)

- boot the partition to EFI shell, it will likely give an erorr and you'd need to set the acpi mode to windows (from EFI shell) or you get a blue screen when trying to boot.

- make sure if you have PCI I/O cards in the I/O chassis that they are supported on Windows (in case the cells have been running HP-UX before or Linux/OpenVMS)

- check to see if the Windows 2008 OS the customer is running has the licenses to go to 32 CPU's (4 cells * 4 dual core cpu's)

- the first boot might take some time because plug and play has quite some new stuff to detect.

- best is also to update your OS with drivers and OS fixes before starting this operation.

good luck

Kris
