Adding external tape drive to MSA1000

Can I add a external tape drive to my MSA1000? I don't have extra storage controllers installed. So I have the availible scsi connections. If so do I have to reboot my SAN to tsee the new tape drive?

Re: Adding external tape drive to MSA1000

MSA1000, if you have the built-in 8-port SAN switch, should support fiber attached devices.

If you have the 2-port fiber "hub", I would guess you could install a fiber tape drive in Arbitrated Loop mode as well.

I'm guessing that the SCSI connection on the MSA are reserved only for additional drive shelves, and cannot be used for peripheral devices.

Hope this helps.

Cory:

You can attach any fibre channel based Tape Library/Drive to the SAN Switch behind the MSA1000 controllers as long as you have an available port, as stated.

You can NOT attach any SCSI based devices except for 4314/4354/MSA30 type Disk shelves to the SCSI i/o module on the MSA1000. They won't work.
