I have two questions,
1. How long maximum distance does connect two MSA1000 through 2/8 switch ISL trunking ? Some information from HP SAN design guide is lised below, (see attachment file table 41 which cut from HP san design ref guide June 2005 )
Interface: 9 micron single-mode fiber optic cable and extended-reach SFPs
distance: 35 km ISL at 2 Gb/s with 2 Gb/s SFP
2. How long maximum distance does a HBA card connect to a SAN switch ?
Thanks!

Re: MSA1000 ISL trunking distance
1.MSA SAN switch 2/8 is fully support all the features of "stanalone" SAN B-series switch. There is SFP (Plugable transivers), so you may install LW SFP for supporting long dinstance. You also must license Extended Fabric feature. http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11891_div/11891_div.html
2. max native support up to 10km using single-mode optic cable

Re: MSA1000 ISL trunking distance
So for a multimode cable with a 50 micrometer core, the max. distance on
1 GigaBit is 500 meters and for 2 GigaBit is 300 meters.

Solution50 micron multimode fiber optic cable and
short-wave SFPs
300 meters at 2 Gb/s
500 meters at 1 Gb/s
62.5 micron multimode fiber optic cable and
short-wave SFPs
150 meters at 2 Gb/s
9 micron single-mode fiber optic cable and
long-wave SFPs
10 km ISL at 2 Gb/s
9 micron single-mode fiber optic cable and
extended-reach SFPs
35 km ISL at 2 Gb/s
2. AFAIK on standard FC HBA there is no plugable transiver therefore max distance are:
300 meters at 2 Gb/s
500 meters at 1 Gb/s
