SymBIOS
I want to disable SymBIOS adapter in my netservers. Is it possible? I'm receiving lots of errors in Insight Manager.
Thanks for replies.

Re: SymBIOS
This only counts for LP1000/2000 netservers.
Thanks,
Remco

Re: SymBIOS
what is the error message you get in IM ?
Can you post an example here pls ?
Do you see those errors also logged in the local system or application event log of Windows ?

Re: SymBIOS
The error generated in Insight Manager:
Event severity: Critical
symSCSI7
SCSI device has failed
The unique SCSI Controller Number Value "0"
SCSI Target Identification Number Value "0"
This error is reported multiple times for at least 8 servers.

Re: SymBIOS
what do you see in the Windows Event log of such a server that send those alerts?
I don't need a screenshot.
If you see messages like this every 30 minutes approx:
device x failed ...
device x recovered ...
then do this on the server (on each server that generates these errors)
- net stop snmp (or stop the SNMP service
via services)
- delete the file called symdb.db ,
normally in c:\Winnt\hpserver\symdb.db
- net start snmp
This will create a new symdb.db file
This can be done online if SNMP can be stopped/started and fixes this problem.
If it's something different, i'd like to see it from the local servers perspective first as we should fix it their.

Re: SymBIOS
I remember there being some issues with drivers with the LP2000, although I don't remember the specifics. First howerver would be to go and install the backplane and symbios drivers and see if the HP drivers resolve the issue. You can locate the drivers here: http://tinyurl.com/3mlt7
Download the SAF-TE driver and the drivers for 2000 for either LP2000 or 1.13 or higher depending on which version of LP you have. Also I'm assuming you are running server 2000. Is that correct?
Ciao,
Greg
