Network card port aggregation in 7410 HPUX11iv2
Hi,
I have a HP rp7410 server with HPUX11iV2 having 2nos 1Gb cards. What are the tools available for NIC teaming?
Is there any free ware tool?
Is Auto port agergation paid or free tool?
Thanks in advance.
Jayant

Jayant, Welcome to ITRC.. and you must Assign Points to this reply and to all that reply.. thought I would warn you that you must assign points to get good valued responses here..anyway;
please do not use the word Teaming here.. This is very different than Windows's Teaming..
The supported product for combining multiple Nic's (Network Cards) is the APA (Auto port Ag.).
search http://docs.hp.com and there are books to help also.
I do not know of any Freeware tools..
The APA does cost you a license $$. If you have a supported HP-UX OS, then you might be able to ask HP for a Free Eval Trial.. (I am only guessing here.)
Think about it, you can gain double the bandwith for network traffic..
best of luck,
T.

Re: Network card port aggregation in 7410 HPUX11iv2
Shalom,
You have three realistic options.
1) A script based system that detects the failure of the primary nic card and brings up the secondary with an ifconfig command. Cost $0 , but your time.
2) HP Serviceguard has a standby lan option. SG runs around $1000/CPU, but it works very well.
3) APA Auto Port Agregation as mentioned above.
Option 3 is the best and most flexible option, and possibly the most expensive. I'm not familiar with the current liceensing model.
