When testing with some older 11b radios, we found out that they could not handle the information being sent to them by 11g radios. For instance 11g radios will send out phy speeds up to 54 mbs which was larger than the limit of only 8 phy speeds expected by the 11b radio. You might try disabling the g functionality on the 2.4 band and see if that helps.
