ssh to short name

ssh to short name

I have T1471AA Ver. 4.7 set up on a HP UX 9000 running HPUX 11.23.
When I am on the box described above and I
ssh root@ShortNameBox the cursor just sits there for the longest time and maybe it will and maybe it will not connect.

If I do the same thing but use the FQDN I am connected in milliseconds. We do use dns here so
what do I look at to use the short name the same way as the FQDN??

Re: ssh to short name

Not sure about HPUX, but with most *nix in the file "/etc/resolv.conf" you can put in a search parameter with your domain information. It will combine the short name with the domain to do a FQDN lookup.
