Win ME to XP upgrade on Pav 6640
The XP install stops and produces a "recommend a BIOS upgrade for ACPI compliance" message. HP does not offer an upgrade nor can one be had from the BIOS maker (Phoenix). The XP "stop" message offers (but does not recommend) a work around. A commercial provider of BIOS upgrades says that the 6640's BIOS (reported as PhoenixBIOS 4.0, Release 6.0.B) has HP proprietary alterations and, therefore, there are no available third-party upgrades. Suggestions? Thank you.

Re: Win ME to XP upgrade on Pav 6640
Roger --
The referenced MS document was in fact helpful. Ironically, following the instructions and "forcing a HAL" from the menu choices did NOT work (not even when choosing the "default PC" option. However, bypassing the menu altogether (which supposedly also has the effect of choosing "default PC") DID work. And having the document available gave me confidence that XP would install correctly after this work around. It does. Thank you.
