Re: how to format system
I'm assuming that you mean to format drive C:
Print out the contents of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files found on C:\
You may want to make sure that you have the CDROM drivers disk somewhere for the CDROM drive. Depending on how old the drive is, you'll need to install the drivers on to your newly formatted C: drive in order to do the Windows 98 install.
Go to http://www.bootdisk.com
Create a windows 98 boot disk
Make sure that the new Bootdisk is in drive A:, and start up your system using the disk.
FORMAT C: /S
Install your CDROM drivers, and reboot.
Insert the Windows 98 CD, and start the install.
The boot disks from BOOTDISK.COM come with generic CDROM drivers. If you don't have the correct drivers for your CDROM, you should be able to use one of the ones found on the bootdisk.
