There is a fault with the power setup. Sometimes the AC power stops and the computer is then running on battery, but the power meter in the tray shows that the computer is running on AC power. The LED power indicator goes off however. When you check the power meter control panel it shows that the computer is running on battery. If I try pushing the jack in and out nothing happens. If I switch the computer off but leave the power unit attached, then the LED light comes on as red to show that the computer is charging, and it recharges fine тАж until the next time it happens.
Is this a hardware problem? Are there any software issues involved?

SolutionBefore making any assumptions, I would try the following:
If you're running WINXP, go here:
http://tinyurl.com/dlt4r
and install items from the following categories:
- Software - System Management
- Operating System - Enhancements and QFEs (Chipset only, unless you have WINXP SP2 installed)
- BIOS (only the F.55 version) (read and follow the directions meticulously!)
If you're running WIN2K, go here:
http://tinyurl.com/c8czc
and do the same things listed above.
Make a great day!

Re: power problem on Pavllion laptop zt3352ap
Thanks very much for this. I have downloaded and installed the softpaq for power mangement but have left it at that to see whether that resolves the problem.
Do you think that is a good idea or should I donwload all of them as you suggested before and put the lot in?

Your approach is a very good one (and I'm sure it's based on experience) ;-)
Make a great day!

Re: power problem on Pavllion laptop zt3352ap
Thanks very much for your help, and I think I have reached a solution.
I installed the power settings softpaq first - from my limited view it seemed the most likely if it was software. Soon afterwards I had a repeat of the power problem, but then it seemed OK.
I have since downloaded and installed the other softpaqs, fixing what was not broken?
Unless there are other suggestions I now believe (or hope?) I have exhausted any software options.
If it is a hardware fault I have until Xmas before the guarantee runs out so by that time I would think that if it is hardware the fault will worsen. At the moment I am hoping that your software recommendations have resolved it.
Thanks again for your help.
All the Best
