secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

system locks-up when booting. I disable the 2ndary IDE controller and restart and no problems. Is this a problem with a driver or jumper, etc.? running win98se and also have a burner (drive E:\) Please help or refer. Thanks in advance.

Re: secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

Jae:

To solve this problem, we would need to know what devices are connected to the secondary IDE cable and how they're jumpered (Master/Slave/Cable Select).

I usually debug this kind of problem, initially at least, without Windows. Most BIOSes will auto-detect IDE/ATAPI devices. If that function works properly and Windows still hangs/locks up, I would discover what chipset is being used on your computer and what motherboard you have. I would upgrade the BIOS and the chipset drivers, then re-evaluate.

Hope This Helps!
