Re: How to configure NTP service and to konw Hardware detail in openvms

Welcome.

Step-by-step 1:

The primary documentation link for OpenVMS and its related layered products: http://www.hp.com/go/openvms/doc

The primary documentation link for TCP/IP Services: http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/tcpip57.html

And here is the NTP configuration and management chapter of the management manual

Step-by-step 2:

The Google search engine is how questions can be researched.  In particular, the Google keyword site: is useful for targetting a search.  In the Google search box, enter site:h71000.www7.hp.com to target your searches to the IP host that contains most of the documentation and resources for OpenVMS.

(Links starting with the h710000.www7.hp.com host are considered "volatile" or so HP has commented, but that host does make an excellent host for a Google site:h71000.www7.hp.com search; a targeted search.)

Step-by-step 3:

Among other ways:

SET PROCESS/PRIVILEGE=ALL

ANALYZE /SYSTEM

SDA> CLUE CONFIG

Step-by-step 4:

Ask your boss for time for training, or classes in OpenVMS.  The training and education path.  Otherwise, start looking for a different job and probably one that's involving Oracle Solaris or other of your skills and experiences, as it could be inferred you're not getting the management support you require here, in terms of the time for training and reading documentation and access to the necessary support resources to increase your skill level.  OpenVMS is very different from Solaris, and applying most of that Solaris knowledge will largely just slow you down here.

If you're following the training path or otherwise not in a position to find a job that suits your skills, then visit the primary documentation site http://www.hp.com/go/openvms/doc and start reading the User's Guide, and then (depending on what you're up to here) the System Management Manual (for OpenVMS) and the TCP/IP Services Management manual (for IP), and then possibly the OpenVMS Programming Concepts manual (if you're going to be programming).  The organization and content of the OpenVMS documentation is quite different than that of the Solaris documentation, so don't apply your knowledge of Solaris here, either.
