SYLOGICALS "warning"

In describing MAIL$SYSTEM_FLAGS bit values, why does SYLOGICALS include this "warning":

$!
$! Make certain that the DECnet MAIL parser uses the DECnet-Plus
$! (DECnet Phase V) parser regardless of whether you are running
$! DECnet Phase IV or DECnet Phase V. In other words, always have
$! at least bit 4 (value 16) set in MAIL$SYSTEM_FLAGS.
$!

What's the "danger" if this bit isn't set?

If it's that important, then it should not be user-settable. Why don't you bug the support centre and get an answer from them.

I'll see what I can do from within HP . . .
