Access CDE remotely

Hello All

I have a TRU64 4.0 and i want to access the CDE remotely.
Does anybody knows a program to emulate this ?
I can only access through CLI(Character environment).

Hi Bruno,

the CDE is by nature graphics oriented. I would suggest Reflection for X.
What do you want to do with it?

Reflections have a charcter based and GUI interface, the GUI interface connects you with the CDE interface on the UNIX or OpenVMS servers.

The reflection X is installed only in the client machine or i have to install it in the server as well ?

You don't have to install it on the server, just the client machine. You just have to make sure that the xdm services are started and configured on the server.

though it seems confusing, Reflection for X is a server and runs on the pc and serves the graphics requests of the graphics programme.

What version of UNIX are you running?

While I was installing Tru64 V 5.1B on my machine, xdm was configured automatically and the window came up after installation.
The configuration files are just used to tweak the config
Check the man pages for xdm, it will point you to the files that you need to tweak the xdm server
# man xdm

Version 4.0 is very old, have you considered upgrading to a supported version?
I don't know if xdm is available with 4.0, you should check the installation manual

Hi Bruno,

that is a question not easily answered. First of all, you would have to make sure, that all the important hardware is supported by 5.1B, then you would have to update the firmware to a state, necessary for that release. Finaly it is important to know, how much is running on that machine. The quickest way would be clean install+patching. This would take dependent on your hardware roughly two hours.

I agree with mike, you have other very long option and that is to follow the upgrade path, if you have the OS operating system CD for versions between 4.0 and 5.1B, OR if you have Compaq/HP support

This will take a lot of time and work
