HP 9510i and Windows 98 Startup Hang

I installed a 9510i CD-RW as the slave to a DVD-ROM master on the secondary IDE bus of a W98 SE system. Upon reboot, the BIOS sees both drives but then the startup hangs at the startup splash screen. I tried making the 9510 the master and the DVD the slave and making the 9510i the only thing on the IDE as master and still it hangs. A Seagate Travan tape drive was originally on the secondary IDE along with the DVD but the 9510 replaces it on the IDE cable. System is a Gateway G6-400 with 128m memory and PII 400mhz.
Thanks

Never mind.
I received an answer from another group that solved the problem.
I had to edit config.sys and "rem" out the DOSHIGH line and the DEVICEHIGH lines.
