BL25P Dual Core servers

Stupid question of the month. - We are evaluating BL25P Opteron based servers. I have W2K3 SP1 installed OK but when I look @ performance monitor or task manager I only see 2 processors. Device Manager etc shows 2 processors - we have 2 physical processors installed.

It there a utility somewhere that proves that this is a dual core, dual processor machine? Or have I missed something? I can't see anything (or is this all that happens). I would think that perfmon would be able to chart the processor load on a per-core basis (Just so I know I'm executing 4 simultaneous threads). I have PSP 7.30 which installs the AMD-8000 Chipset driver.

BTW - does anyone know how to disable the PSSU (Post Setup Security Utility) in W2K3SP1 setup?

Re: BL25P Dual Core servers

Dual-core processors require an updated AMD PowerNow! driver from AMD's web site.

http://www.amd.com/us-en/

-------------
to support the new dual-core Opteron processors..... and upgrade the ROM to the latest version

-------------

What your server Part number or Serial number - if you not sure
or go by part number see if it DUAL-CORE

Re: BL25P Dual Core servers

you should see CPU usage per core,if dual you should see two

Arrrgggghhh....

I feel much better now. We have Model 252 1MB L2 processors. I didn't even think that HP would utilise single core devices - May as well buy BL20 Xeons!

Thanks for that.

Re: BL25P Dual Core servers

Hi,

We already have a dual single core opteron system with windows 2003 x64 installed. Is it possible to place the disks of a single core opteron system in a dual core system. Can Windows installation handle the "two extra" processors?

Thanks in advance,
