DL380 G5 RAM Configuration

We currently have several DL380 G5s that need RAM upgrades. They are configured as follows:

Board 0
DIMM 1A ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 2C ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 3A ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 4C ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 5B ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 6D ( DDR2 ) --------------------
DIMM 7B ( DDR2 ) 1024 Mbytes (667 MHz)
DIMM 8D ( DDR2 ) --------------------

We've considered adding two 4GB DIMMs to bring them up to 14GB total, but we're not sure if that's possible, or advisable. If it's possible, which slots should the 4GB DIMMS go into for best performance, or does that matter?

If we can't add the 4GB DIMMS, what would be the best way to bring them up to 12GB minimum?

Thanks for any help.

Re: DL380 G5 RAM Configuration

Charlie,

The information you need can be found in the Quick Specs for the server:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/Division/90013.html

Select on the left ProLiants, then drill down for your model.
This will give valid memory configurations and option part numbers.

Re: DL380 G5 RAM Configuration

Thanks for the response, Louis. Quick Specs gave me a couple of possible configurations, but doesn't list all that are possible. Do you have a link that might?

Re: DL380 G5 RAM Configuration

just add the new DIMMS to 6D and 8D

according to this
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00710359/c00710359.pdf

page 58 there is no special configuration I mean adding these new DIMMs

In addition to general configuration requirements, Advanced ECC memory also has the following
configuration requirements:
├в ┬в FBDIMMs must be installed in pairs.
├в ┬в FBDIMMs must be installed in sequential order, beginning with bank A.

just that

Re: DL380 G5 RAM Configuration

Something important to considere is which OS are you using on that server...?
